Rich/Nicky 1.5 hours each, 4th August, cleared back undergrowth (overgrowth?) from lower Connector also a mild buff'n'fluff.

Also uncovered an old rock line, those that know my line down lower Connector through the three rock drops/rock faces, at the top of the second one – go sharp right, takes you down a smooth rock face to a 3' rock drop to exit between two trees.

Samsquanch diary: some areas of undergrowth squashed flat, possibly bear but bigger than human for sure.

Samsquanch spotted: zero.

I was wondering, what are the limits that just an average user (me) can do in Crawford?

Is it ok to bring along a small folding saw to clear some of the smaller downed trees?

I've looked on the FOSS website but they just mention doing the adopt-a-trail thing and the need to sign a waiver.

2.5 hours : 10 WBB guys in 3 groups clearing windfall

1) lower entrance in to Natasha is cleared.  The higher Natasha entrance still needs some more work, we have about 7 more trees to go.

2) Crawford trail up to the top of Surf & Turf, the top half of Surf & Turf is cleared

3) Hyde, Heckle and Rocky Screech are cleared

edit: we did not clear rock garden.  Some signage up there is misleading

The higher natasha entrance (base of the climb to flamingo) is cleared. As is Bullwinkle, the vapour exit to pink highway, race classic below lone pine, and earing below connector.

We just go up and get whatever done we can.  Often while on our rides, we have bow-saws and folding saws packed with us and just clear what's in our way.  I didn't know about the waiver from FOSS.

If you're concerned, become a paid up member of the club.  We have an agreement in place with BC Parks to help maintain the trails, so you'd be in the clear. For simple clearing while you're out riding, no problem.  For more ambitious projects, or anything requiring power tools, we need to clear a couple of hurdles re: certification and notification.  Pretty simple stuff.

There's also a couple of simple guidelines to be aware of when you're clearing deadfall, mainly that you should clear debris at least 2' back from the trail edge.

Ok, good to know. I'll pickup some basic saws and crap and take them with me when I head up there. I ride there enough, always felt I should give back somehow.

While riding Vapor I moved all the windfall that wasn't to heavy, or awkward.  Below Race Classic there is some blow down that requires the use of a chain saw to be rid of it.

Bullets.. My only weakness.

Spent an hour clearing what I could cut with my folding saw on Fairlane/galloping. Some big ones down that will need a chainsaw and one thats overhanging the trail and could fall at anytime.
