Supp guys,

I have finally secured my family (me, my partner, and our daughter) a permanent resident visa and will be moving to Kelowna in August 2009…. I ride mainly XC and Freeride on my Specialized Enduro, and Transition Bottlerocket, and i'm wondering if anyone can give me a general idea of how the scene works there? is it a well known area that people just hook up at or is it more of an organised group kind of scene?

I'm so stoked to have finally got my golden ticket to come live and ride in your amazing country, god knows its took nearly 3 years to get the visas, so we are chomping at the bit to get out there and i'm so excited to soon be ripping it up with the local scene…. Oh, anyone got any jobs going..??????….lol

Hey Simon,

The scene here is whatever you want it to be. You can hook up with a bike shop for their evening organised group rides, ride XC/AM solo, or go dirtbag style and hook up with a few bro's for shuttle rips, good times, road trips etc. Or you can split your time between riding and trail work by giving some payback to the trails we love. Whatever you feel like. The scene is a lot more “connected” than 12 months ago mainly due to riders meeting up through MTBco and lots of shuttle days. The local bro's are a friendly chilled out bunch. There's plenty of bike shops to chose from for whatever suits your needs. Silver Star resort is about 60 mins drive away and Sun Peaks 2+ hours. Both offer something different for bike park, lift-accessed good times. Whistler makes for a good long weekend though it does ramp up the cost for bike park riding. From Kelowna, its easy to make a long weekend of a Whistler trip. Plenty of local trails, with loads of choice. Expect dust, rocks, pain, gnar, and hot hot hot heat.
