FOSS (Friends of the South Slope) and BC Parks are going out on Saturday, May 31st with the objective of imporving a wet section of Vapour Trail. Vapour trail is a very popular hiking and mountain biking trail and is beginning to show signs of wear. The wet section is about 40 feet long and the plan is to build up the trail using logs and rocks found locally.
The wet area on Vapour trial is a 40 minute moderate walk from the closest access point which is where Hromek Road and Outhouse trail meet (see 2008 Ap 25 Map to Lower Vapour project). Friends of the South Slopes will supply the tools needed. They will include a wheelbarrow, Polanskis, rakes, shovels, come-alongs and rope. You will need to bring good boots, work gloves, a hat, bug repellent, a lunch and water. The work will be very physical, as we are moving logs and rocks. Realistically I don’t expect most of us to be able to work solidly for many hours straight, so rest breaks will be expected. As always, safety is a primary concern. I am first aid trained and will have a first aid kit with me. Volunteers will have to sign a form to be covered by BC Parks volunteer insurance.
As we need the logs in place before we start to fill in the space between them with rocks, the plan is to go in two groups, one at 7:00 am and one at 8:00 am.
